Privacy Policy

Effective October 16, 2026

In short: Suga uses your microphone only to measure sound, on your device, while the light show is running. Audio is never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. We don't collect, receive, share or sell any of your data. There's no account, no analytics and no ads, and the Android app doesn't have permission to use the internet.

Who we are

Suga (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a music visualizer for Android, iPhone, iPad and the web, developed independently by shaunniekins. This policy explains how the app and this website handle information. If anything here is unclear, contact us at contact@shaunniekins.com.

The microphone

Suga needs the microphone to see your music. While the visualizer is open, it reads the microphone in small slices (about forty a second) and works out three things from each one: how loud it is, how that sound is spread from bass to treble, and whether a beat just started. Those numbers drive the colors on screen.

Information we collect

None. We don't collect personal information, audio, usage data, device identifiers, location, crash reports or analytics. The app contains no advertising or analytics software, and there's no account system or server for it to send anything to.

Information stored on your device

The app remembers one thing, only on your device: your mode lineup — the order you've put the modes in and which ones you've switched off. On Android and iOS it's kept in the app's private storage; in the browser it's kept in the site's local storage. It's deleted when you uninstall the app or clear the site's data, and Reset in the Modes sheet restores the default.

The web version and this website

This website and the browser version of Suga are hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel's servers receive the standard information your browser sends to load a page — such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested — and may keep it in short-term logs to deliver and secure the service, under Vercel's privacy policy. We don't use those logs to identify or track visitors.

The site and the web app use no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. All of their code, fonts and images are served from this domain, so loading Suga in your browser doesn't contact any other company. The microphone works the same way as in the apps: your browser asks your permission first, and audio never leaves your device.

Permissions the app uses

PermissionWhy
MicrophoneTo measure the sound around you so the screen can react to it. Asked for the first time you start the visualizer. Android: “Record audio”. iOS and browsers: “Microphone”.

Keeping the screen awake during the light show doesn't need a permission. The app does not request internet access (Android), location, contacts, camera, photos, storage-wide file access or notifications.

Links to other services

This website links to our Buy Me a Coffee page and to our email address. Opening one takes you to that service, where its own privacy policy applies. The app itself contains no links and sends nothing to these services.

Sharing and selling

We don't share or sell any data, because we don't have any.

Children

Suga isn't directed at children under 13, and it doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone — children included.

Security

Because audio is never stored or transmitted, there's no recording that could be exposed. Your mode lineup lives in storage that other apps and websites can't read, protected by your device's own lock screen and encryption.

Your choices and rights

You're in control on your own device: allow or revoke microphone access in your settings, reset your mode lineup in the app, or remove everything by uninstalling the app or clearing this site's data. For any privacy request or question, write to contact@shaunniekins.com.

Changes to this policy

If Suga ever changes how it handles data, we'll update this policy and its effective date before that change ships, and describe it clearly. Recording or sending audio would never happen silently, and anything like it would always be opt-in.
